Some images from my tranny swap
The manual transmission in my '71 Squareback, after howling for a year and a half (driven daily!), finally died. Well, it would still drive just fine, but would make a terrible clunk-clunk-clunk sound. About a year ago I picked up a used transmission from a Beetle. It's basically the same unit, with a few details to pay attention to. I spent the day today (May 23, 1998) switching them; I have yet to hook up the CV joints, starter & clutch cable. I will narrate these images more fully when it's all done.
